New Delhi, Feb 23 (NationPress) - The American tech powerhouse, Amazon, unveiled its second largest facility in Asia located in Bengaluru on Monday. This impressive 12-storey building covers a massive 1.1 million square feet and is set to accommodate over 7,000 employees working in various sectors, including ecommerce, operations, technology, payments, and seller services within India, as stated by the company.
"Amazon's ongoing investment in Bengaluru highlights India's increasing significance as a global hub for technology and innovation. Large campuses like this one generate quality employment opportunities, enhance the local ecosystem, and bolster India's digital economy. We appreciate investments that foster long-term capabilities and create opportunities for our workforce," remarked MB Patil, the Karnataka Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, during the building's inauguration.
The establishment of this new office is part of Amazon's extensive investment strategy in India, having already poured over $40 billion into the country, with an additional pledge of $35 billion by 2030.
Situated just 15 kilometers from Kempegowda International Airport, the corporate office is designed to facilitate collaboration, flexibility, learning, and well-being among its teams, as per the company's announcement.
"Bengaluru has been home to some of our earliest tech and business teams over the years, and it continues to serve as a vital center for innovation and talent," stated Samir Kumar, Amazon India's Country Manager.
The new campus features adaptable work environments and collaborative spaces arranged into self-sufficient neighborhoods, equipped with meeting rooms, huddle spaces, breakout areas, and event venues capable of hosting over 200 individuals, according to the company.
Employees will also enjoy dedicated recreational facilities, such as basketball and pickleball courts, an amphitheater, landscaped lawns, and outdoor community areas. The cafeterias spread across two floors offer a diverse array of global cuisines, as noted by the US-based firm.
The project emphasizes sustainable practices, including responsible sourcing of materials, reusing office assets, and utilizing high-efficiency systems aimed at minimizing both embodied and operational carbon emissions.
