Sambalpur (Odisha), May 20 (NationPress) – Amitabh Kant, who serves as India's G20 Sherpa and is the former CEO of NITI Aayog, visited IIM Sambalpur on Tuesday, highlighting the significant role that Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) play in fueling the nation's growth. He discussed how essential their contributions are in shaping India's future trajectory.

During his visit, Amitabh Kant underscored the importance of the country’s esteemed institutions in achieving the vision of a ‘developed India’. He engaged with both professors and students at IIM Sambalpur, further emphasizing the institution's pivotal role in national development.

Speaking to the media, he noted that the world faces numerous challenges, and these institutions are crucial for propelling the economy toward a target of $30 trillion.

“With the rise of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing, we are on the path to realizing the dream of a developed India. Transitioning from a $4 trillion economy to one exceeding $30 trillion will require us to enhance our GDP by nearly nine times, increase per capita income by eight times, and boost manufacturing by sixteen times. IITs and IIMs will be instrumental in this journey,” he stated.

Amitabh Kant further emphasized the importance of innovation, asserting, “Indian startups must embrace innovation. We need advancements in sectors like batteries, solar energy, and electric mobility. This is the reason the Government of India has developed campuses like IIM Sambalpur.”

He also acknowledged the district's vast potential, as it plays a significant role in India's economy.

“The electricity generated here serves seven states, and approximately 75% of India’s aluminium production comes from Sambalpur,” he added.

Additionally, he proposed the idea of transforming Sambalpur into the greenest district in the nation and sought leadership from IIM on this initiative.
