Another Monk Detained in Bangladesh: ISKCON Kolkata Reports

Kolkata, Nov 30 (NationPress) A second monk associated with the International Society For Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has been detained in Bangladesh, as stated by Radharaman Das, the vice-president and spokesperson of ISKCON Kolkata, on Saturday.

He identified the detained monk as Shyam Das, who allegedly went to visit monk and representative of the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, Chinmoy Krishna Das, commonly referred to as Chinmoy Prabhu. Chinmoy Prabhu was apprehended earlier this week by the Bangladesh Police and is currently held at a correctional facility.

According to Radharaman Das, the police took Shyam Das into custody as well. He shared a picture of Shyam Das on his official X account and questioned whether the detained monk resembled a terrorist.

“Does he look like a terrorist? #FreeISKCONMonks Bangladesh. The detention of innocent #ISKCON brahmacharis is profoundly shocking and disturbing,” he wrote on his official X account.

In another update on his X account, Radharaman Das reported that an ISKCON center in Bhairav, Bangladesh has been vandalized. He also shared a video showing the damage done to the ISKCON center.

Earlier, on Thursday, Radharaman Das stated that the ISKCON center located in Shibchar, Bangladesh was forcibly shut down by a group of individuals. He expressed to IANS that the response from the Bangladesh government to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding the arrest of Chinmoy Prabhu was exceedingly frustrating.

Numerous protests have already been organized in Kolkata concerning the arrest of Chinmoy Prabhu and the violence faced by minority Hindus in Bangladesh. With the recent detention of Shyam Das, it is anticipated that protests in the city will intensify in the upcoming days.
