New Delhi, July 20 (NationPress) Haryana's fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has been incorporated into India’s Test squad for the current tour of England after left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh suffered a serious cut on his bowling hand during a training session.
The 24-year-old Kamboj, who has claimed 79 wickets in 24 first-class matches, was part of the India A team that competed in two three-day games last month, where he took five wickets.
“India A seamer, #AnshulKamboj has been added to the Indian squad as a substitute ahead of the fourth Test against England at Manchester!” announced the official broadcasters of the tour, Star Sports, on X.
With the team management yet to determine whether to include Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth match scheduled to be held at Old Trafford, and some bowlers underperforming in prior games, Arshdeep was a strong candidate for inclusion in the match.
Arshdeep incurred a cut on his bowling hand while attempting to stop a ball during practice on Thursday, seen later with a bandaged hand.
“He tried to stop a ball off Sai and sustained a cut on his hand, so we need to evaluate the severity. The medical team has taken him to see a doctor, and whether he needs stitches will be critical for our planning in the coming days,” stated India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate regarding the left-arm pacer’s injury.
Moreover, there remains uncertainty concerning Akash Deep’s availability for the fourth Test due to a reported groin issue.
During day 4 of the third Test at Lord’s, in the 28th over of England’s innings, Akash Deep departed for the dressing room after experiencing discomfort. After receiving treatment, he returned but did not bowl subsequently.
Presently, England leads the five-Test series 2-1 after winning the last match by 22 runs at Lord’s.
