New Delhi, June 10 (NationPress) Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh is putting in the hard work as he prepares for his possible Test debut in the forthcoming series against England. His goal is to challenge the home batters and make their experience tough whenever he gets the chance.
After participating in the county championship in Kent, Arshdeep is expected to play during the series, especially since the primary pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah may not participate in all five Tests due to workload management. The 26-year-old has established himself in India's white-ball setup and is now relishing the sensation of the red ball.
"During today’s practice session, my main aim was to gauge my rhythm—how my body feels and how the red ball comes off my hand—since everyone has been accustomed to the white ball lately. It was a gratifying experience," he shared with bcci.tv.
"As we continue to advance step by step, the intensity will escalate, making it increasingly challenging for the batters. Bowling to them was enjoyable; they seemed focused and competitive, even while we were solely working on our rhythm. This added to the excitement.
"We had to put in the effort and devise solid plans to dismiss them. Sai joined the team for the first time and appeared quite compact as well. The captain looked sharp. I will strive to enhance my performance and aim for more wickets in the future," the left-arm speedster remarked.
Regarding Bumrah's presence in the squad, Arshdeep believes that it spurs other fast bowlers to elevate their game.
"Whenever I have the ball in my hand, I feel like I am at my best. But we all understand that in a lineup featuring a player like Jasprit Bumrah, comparisons are futile," he mentioned.
"Therefore, my focus is on how we can elevate each other’s games and skills to benefit the team. That’s where my attention lies."
The first Test between India and England is set to take place at Headingley, Leeds, starting June 20.
