Mumbai, July 19 (NationPress) Team India faces a significant challenge ahead of the fourth Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England, as pacer Arshdeep Singh is expected to be sidelined for the match scheduled in Manchester from July 23, according to reports emerging from the Indian camp.
During a nets session in Manchester, Arshdeep sustained a cut on his bowling hand that required stitches. The injury occurred while he was attempting to stop a ball, as reported.
With the team management still deliberating on whether Jasprit Bumrah will participate in this crucial match at Old Trafford, combined with other bowlers not performing up to par in previous matches, Arshdeep was a strong contender for selection.
As per an agreement between the Indian team management and the national selection committee, Bumrah is expected to play only three of the five Test matches to manage his workload effectively. He had an impressive outing in the first Test, claiming a five-wicket haul, but missed the second Test and was replaced by Akash Deep. Bumrah returned in the third match, again taking a five-wicket haul, but India faced a narrow 22-run defeat.
Although Arshdeep has not yet made his Test debut, he has participated in eight ODIs and 63 T20Is and has also played 21 First-Class matches.
Currently, England leads the five-match series 2-1 after winning the third Test at Lord's in London. The series opened with England securing a five-wicket victory at Headingley, but India bounced back with a remarkable 336-run win in the subsequent Test at Birmingham.
If Bumrah is rested for the fourth Test, the team management will have to choose between Prasidh Krishna or Shardul Thakur to fill the gap if they opt for three pacers and one pace-bowling allrounder, similar to their strategy in the Lord's Test.
