Mumbai, June 27 (NationPress) Actor and filmmaker Anshuman Jha is officially taking the reins as the director of ‘Lakadbaggha 2 – The Monkey Business’, the eagerly awaited follow-up to the 2023 cult classic vigilante action film Lakadbaggha.
A source close to the film's production revealed: “Anshuman expressed to the team, ‘We will only make this film once — let’s ensure it is the best it can be, irrespective of who directs it.’ This project is driven by clarity and vision for the animal lover vigilante universe, rather than personal ego.”
Initially, it was believed that adman and filmmaker Sanjay Shetty would direct the film. However, after just three days of principal photography, Anshuman decided to take over the directorial duties himself.
The film’s second assistant director, Aura Chandel, provided additional insight: "Anshuman has been involved from the start — from casting international martial arts icons like Sunny Pang and Dan Chupong to the Indian cast, as well as shaping the VFX, score, and narrative tone. Anshuman and Sanjay share a strong mentor-mentee relationship.”
“He assisted Sanjay on ad shoots starting at the age of 16. There’s no animosity — only a mutual passion for the project. The initial scenes have been reshot, and the energy on set is impressively focused.”
On June 10, it was announced that Sunny Pang, known for his role in the film Havoc, will make his Indian film debut with ‘Lakadbaggha 2’.
Pang gained recognition for his role as the antagonist in Netflix’s action film Headshot, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2017.
Anshuman expressed his admiration for Sunny's work in Headshot, stating it was a dream to collaborate with him.
“Sunny Pang brings a legacy of authentic, visceral action. His inclusion in Lakadbaggha 2 is not just a casting success — it’s a bold statement. This sequel is set to be bigger, bolder, and more intense, showcasing the essence of Indian action films.”
‘Lakadbaggha 2’ is anticipated to be a combat spectacle, featuring an intense hand-to-hand duel between Pang and Anshuman. The duo traveled to Bangkok to train with the action team behind the franchise, Kecha Kamphakdee and Jaika Stunts.
