Argentina's Envoy Calls India's Energy Diversification a Strategic Move
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) Describing India’s initiative to broaden its energy and resource suppliers as a ‘strategically sound move’, Argentina’s Ambassador to India, Mariano Agustin Caucino, highlighted that New Delhi had been pursuing this goal prior to the recent global conflicts that have disrupted supply chains.
In an interview with IANS, Caucino emphasized that India's effort to diminish reliance on a limited range of energy and essential resources demonstrates forward-thinking strategy.
“Even before the latest developments in this conflict, the Indian government had been crafting a strategy to diversify its suppliers regarding energy and other resources, which I deem wise,” he remarked.
Caucino pointed out that even prior to the current global tensions, the Indian administration was actively seeking to broaden its supply network.
This policy has empowered India to bolster its position in an increasingly unpredictable global landscape.
“Augmenting the supplier base is not only pragmatic but also essential to maintain stability in the availability of energy and resources,” he added.
Highlighting the strengthening relations between the two nations, the ambassador noted that Argentina and India enjoy a robust and mutually beneficial economic partnership.
He further indicated that both countries have been striving to enhance their relationship into a strategic alliance in recent years.
Caucino highlighted that Argentina contributes to India’s food security and is expanding collaboration into critical sectors like energy and vital minerals.
He specifically mentioned lithium, a key element for batteries and renewable energy technologies, as a growing area of cooperation.
The ambassador noted that Argentina possesses extensive lithium reserves in its northern region, which is part of the “lithium triangle” alongside Chile and Bolivia.
Additionally, he mentioned that the Argentine government has initiated policies to attract foreign investment and offer assurances to investors, making it a favorable destination for Indian enterprises.
He concluded by stating that Indian companies have already made significant investments in Argentina’s lithium industry, indicating deeper engagement prospects in the future.
