Arrest of Bangladeshi National in a Karnataka Village

Mangaluru, Jan 10 (NationPress) A Bangladeshi individual, who was residing illegally in India, has been apprehended from a village in Karnataka's Mangaluru district, according to officials on Friday.

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Anurul Sheik. As per police reports, Sheik was taken into custody from the Mukka village, located on the outskirts of Mangaluru city.

The operation was conducted by the Internal Security Division (ISD) along with the Mangaluru police, who successfully captured the suspect following a tip-off.

Initial investigations indicate that the accused had illegally entered India via the Lalgol border in the eastern West Bengal region three years ago.

Upon arrival, Sheik settled in Mangaluru, where he worked as a construction laborer. He initially arrived in Murshidabad, West Bengal, before relocating to Mangaluru.

Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara recently informed the Legislative Council in Belagavi Suvarna Vidhana Soudha that the state police have detained 159 Bangladeshi nationals and 24 Pakistani nationals who were residing illegally in the state. Furthermore, investigations revealed that 115 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were living in Karnataka.

In response to a query, Parameshwara stated, “A special unit has been established to investigate the issue of illegal immigrants and to track them down. The phenomenon of illegal immigration into Indian territory is not new, as lakhs of illegal immigrants continue to enter the country.”

Previously, on December 30, 2024, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Bengaluru sentenced Jahidul Islam, a Bangladeshi terrorist also known as Kausar, who had settled in Bengaluru. The accused was implicated in cases of dacoity, conspiracy, and fundraising, as well as the procurement of ammunition.

NIA investigations disclosed that Jahidul Islam, the JMB Amir of India, along with absconding JMB leader Salauddin Salehin, had illegally crossed into India in 2014 after evading the custody of Bangladesh Police concerning the 2005 serial blasts in Bangladesh.

While in hiding, he and his associates participated in the October 2014 Burdwan blast case.

Following the blast, Jahidul and his accomplices escaped to Bengaluru, where he radicalized and recruited unsuspecting Muslim youths from West Bengal and Assam to promote the anti-India agenda of JMB.

Additionally, the accused and his group were involved in the blast that occurred in Bodh Gaya in January 2018.
