Pabitra Margherita: Assam's Support for BJP Solid, Opposition Coalition Rejected
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
In Guwahati on March 22 (NationPress), Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita launched a pointed critique of the newly forming Opposition coalition in Assam. He emphasized that the citizens of the state have consistently dismissed any collaboration among leaders such as Gaurav Gogoi, Akhil Gogoi, and Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
While addressing the media, Margherita argued that these alliances are more about personal gain than the welfare of the populace. He stated, “The people of Assam have always rejected the unification of Gaurav Gogoi, Akhil Gogoi, and Lurinjyoti Gogoi. Their partnership fails to instill confidence among the electorate.”
It is noteworthy that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president, Gaurav Gogoi, has formed a coalition with regional entities, including Raijor Dal led by Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi and the Assam Jatiya Parishad led by Lurinjyoti Gogoi.
In a subtle jab, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader criticized the gatherings of the Opposition leaders, claiming they have limited reach and are out of touch with the grassroots.
“They appear to have a singular venue for their discussions—a hotel. This indicates how disconnected they are from everyday citizens,” stated Pabitra Margherita.
Margherita reinforced the BJP’s stronghold in the state, asserting that the people of Assam are solidly backing the ruling party and its vision for development.
“The populace is now aligned with the BJP and trusts its leadership and governance,” he remarked.
Furthermore, Pabitra Margherita accused the Congress party of attempting to regain power with the aim of reinstating corrupt practices.
“The citizens of Assam will not permit the Congress to turn the state into a marketplace for jobs. Such tactics have been rejected by the voters,” he declared.
These statements arise amidst a surge in political maneuvering in Assam as the upcoming Assembly elections approach, with Opposition parties seeking alliances to challenge the BJP.
