Guwahati, May 20 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intensified his criticism against Gaurav Gogoi on Monday, questioning why the Congress MP has refrained from making any public disclosures about his trips to Pakistan.
Sarma addressed the media, stating, “I have previously mentioned that Gaurav Gogoi went to Pakistan and spent 15 days there without obtaining permission from either the Centre or the state. I believe he should publicly clarify this situation; however, he has consistently dodged inquiries on the subject.”
“Why is a Special Investigation Team (SIT) needed to uncover the details of Gogoi’s visit to Pakistan?” Sarma inquired. The Chief Minister also questioned the citizenship status of Gogoi's children, stating, “He (Gaurav Gogoi) often maintains good relations with journalists and media outlets. So why hasn’t he addressed these issues? If he makes a public statement, we can resolve this matter easily.”
Sarma further revealed that he would unveil significant information by September 10. “I urge everyone to remain patient until September 10. I will disclose everything to the public,” he promised.
On Sunday, Sarma reiterated his explosive allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, asserting that the lawmaker visited Pakistan at the invitation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the country’s leading intelligence agency.
The Chief Minister went even further, stating that he would resign if any part of his claims is proven false. “Gaurav Gogoi traveled to Pakistan on ISI’s invitation, and after returning, he opposed the purchase of Rafale,” Sarma claimed, adding that the visit was for receiving “training” – a serious accusation.
Reaffirming his position, the Chief Minister stated, “If even a single word of mine is shown to be incorrect, I will step down as Chief Minister.” He also claimed his administration possesses a document from the Pakistan Home Department that allegedly confirms Gogoi's visit. Sarma stated, “For the first time, I want to declare that he went to Pakistan at the invitation of ISI. We have evidence. He went there for training. It is a grave matter, and more substantial actions will follow.”
Sarma also alleged that Gogoi’s wife has “good relations” with the Pakistan Army. In earlier remarks, he labeled the Congress MP a “Pakistani sympathiser,” although no official actions have been taken against Gogoi thus far.
