Guwahati, May 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, responded sharply to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi regarding the controversy surrounding his visit to Pakistan. On the platform X, CM Sarma stated, “At last, Congress MP Shri Gaurav Gogoi has acknowledged his trip to Pakistan. However, let’s be unequivocal — this is merely the beginning, not the conclusion. There are substantial reasons, backed by credible evidence and documented facts, indicating that Shri Gogoi has been in close contact with the Pakistani authorities.”

“The Assam Government, dedicated to transparency and accountability, will unveil all information on September 10, after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) completes its thorough investigation. The citizens of Assam and the entire nation deserve the truth — and they will receive it, in its entirety,” he further stated.

CM Sarma added, “However, the public will also not forget — nor will they forgive — the Congress party and Shri Rahul Gandhi for intentionally endorsing such a perilous and compromised individual in our nation's public sphere.”

Earlier that day, Gogoi addressed the issue surrounding his 2013 visit to Pakistan and his wife’s professional history.

To dispel rumors and social media speculation concerning his family’s ties, Gogoi clarified that his wife, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, worked with an international NGO and was stationed in Pakistan in 2011 for a year as part of her official responsibilities.

He stated, “I visited Pakistan only once, in 2013, fully adhering to the Government of India’s regulations.”

“My personal and professional life has consistently been transparent and aligned with national interests,” he emphasized.

This marks the first occasion Gogoi has publicly tackled these matters, which have recently gained significant attention.

He stressed the importance of a fact-based political dialogue and called on opponents to concentrate on substantial issues rather than personal attacks.

When questioned about his family's citizenship, Gogoi acknowledged that both his wife and two children possess British citizenship. “My wife’s citizenship is a private matter. Our second child was born in the UK. We encountered numerous challenges while residing in England during the Covid-19 pandemic, which prompted us to convert our first child’s citizenship to British,” he elaborated.
