Guwahati, July 29 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a fierce critique against Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi following his remarks in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on Operation Sindoor.
In a post on his X account, CM Sarma stated, “The speech given by our MP from Jorhat in Parliament yesterday has confirmed that he operates on behalf of Pakistan. His clandestine visits and close connections with the Pakistani establishment are highly revealing. With his wife and children holding foreign citizenship, he could depart India at any moment. He is a disgrace to Assam and a betrayal of our national pride.”
On Monday, initiating the Opposition's accusations in the Lok Sabha regarding a special session on Operation Sindoor, Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi criticized the government for concealing vital information about the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. He questioned how five heavily armed terrorists managed to infiltrate and execute the killings despite India's extensive surveillance and intelligence capabilities.
“(Defence Minister) Rajnath Singh offered numerous details but failed to clarify how the terrorists reached Pahalgam or who facilitated their escape. You have Pegasus, satellites, CRPF, BSF, and CISF—yet there are no answers even after 100 days?” Gogoi demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah accept “moral responsibility” for the attack, alleging the government deflected blame instead of acknowledging security failures.
CM Sarma has made serious accusations regarding Gogoi's supposed connections with Pakistan, vowing to present “damning” evidence on September 10.
“What I will disclose on September 10 will cause Rahul Gandhi to regret appointing such an individual to a leadership position,” CM Sarma had previously remarked, referencing Gogoi's role as Congress president in Assam.
CM Sarma has also claimed that Gogoi's wife was involved in gathering sensitive information about the Indian government, allegedly for international climate organizations. “We possess documents that indicate his wife was collecting intelligence outputs from the Government of India. This operation is directly connected,” he claimed.
He has further suggested Gogoi's associations with Pakistan’s Interior Ministry and intelligence agency, the ISI. He has continually questioned the timing and nature of Gogoi’s visit to Pakistan, labeling the trip troubling as it took place before he became a Member of Parliament. “That’s even more alarming, as he was residing at the Chief Minister’s residence during that time. How can the son of a Chief Minister travel in such a way?” Sarma questioned.
The CM has also raised concerns regarding the citizenship status of Gogoi’s family. CM Sarma alleged to have documentary proof indicating that Gogoi applied for a change in his son’s citizenship in 2021, even though the child previously held Indian citizenship.
Accusing the Congress party of longstanding ties with Pakistan, CM Sarma earlier stated that by placing Gogoi in a significant leadership position, the party has once again shown its alleged sympathy towards India's western neighbor. “Rahul Gandhi must respond now. The Congress has always supported Pakistan—and with Gogoi’s appointment, they’ve done it again,” he asserted.
