Shillong, March 25 (NationPress) The Director General of Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, stressed the critical necessity of ensuring the security and integrity of the India-Myanmar border and the Kashmir valley, according to officials.
During his address at the Assam Rifles Commander Conference 2025, Lieutenant General Lakhera remarked that the paramilitary unit must be ready for any emergencies and security challenges that may arise.
He highlighted the significance of safeguarding the unfenced India-Myanmar border and the Kashmir valley.
The Assam Rifles, which are trained in counter-insurgency operations, are currently monitoring the 1,643-km unfenced border alongside four northeastern states: Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Manipur (398 km), Nagaland (215 km), and Mizoram (510 km).
In addition to their role in the northeastern states, the Assam Rifles are actively engaged in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Assam Rifles Commander Conference 2025 took place at the forces' headquarters in Laitkor, Shillong, and included participation from formation commanders, battalion commanders, and staff officers from the headquarters of the Director-General of Assam Rifles.
A Defence spokesperson noted that significant topics discussed at the conference included enhancing the capability and combat potential of the Assam Rifles, laying out a plan for acquiring new-generation weaponry and military gear, and sharing best practices among units to boost the overall efficiency of the force.
The conference also placed emphasis on the training and skill development of soldiers.
The Director General of Assam Rifles praised the formation and unit commanders for maintaining peace and order in their designated areas.
He urged them to remain ever vigilant in the dynamics of the environment in which the force operates.
The Defence spokesperson added that the Assam Rifles Commander Conference 2025 serves as a vital platform for commanders to discuss critical topics related to combat capabilities, operational readiness, administrative matters, and human resource management.
During the event, the top three distinguished formations and units were awarded the prestigious Rajbhasha Trophies 2025 for their extraordinary efforts in promoting and implementing the Hindi language, with the 27th Assam Rifles winning the first prize, followed by the Headquarters Inspectorate General Assam Rifles (South) in second, and the 28th Assam Rifles Battalion in third.
The conference concluded with a renewed dedication from all participants to uphold the highest standards of operational excellence and to continuously pursue excellence in all areas, according to the spokesperson.
