Guwahati, Feb 25 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, emphasized on Wednesday that investing in children's education is the most effective strategy for ensuring the state's future. The government is actively implementing various welfare programs designed to dismantle obstacles to education.
In a recent update shared on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister outlined several initiatives by the Assam government aimed at assisting students throughout the state. These initiatives include free textbooks, school uniforms, scholarships, as well as provisions for bicycles and scooters.
“When children gain knowledge, our future is safeguarded. By providing free textbooks, uniforms, scholarships, and scooters, we are eliminating hurdles so that every child in Assam has the chance to further their education and aspire for greater heights. The future of Assam starts within its classrooms,” Sarma stated.
As per the Chief Minister, the Assam government is supplying free textbooks to over 57 lakh students across the state, ensuring they have access to crucial learning materials from primary to higher secondary education.
Additionally, free school uniforms are being distributed to more than 43.3 lakh students, alleviating the financial burden on families and promoting consistent school attendance.
To assist adolescent learners, particularly those in rural and remote regions, the government has provided free bicycles to over 10.03 lakh Class IX students, with the goal of enhancing mobility and decreasing dropout rates.
Moreover, annual fee waivers are being offered to more than four lakh students, allowing them to continue their education without financial barriers.
The Chief Minister also noted scholarship programs and the provision of scooters for deserving students, especially girls, as part of the government's strategy to foster higher education and empower young minds.
“These efforts are not merely welfare measures; they represent long-term investments in our human resources,” Sarma asserted, adding that educational advancement remains a primary focus for the state government.
The Assam administration has consistently prioritized bolstering school infrastructure, enhancing learning outcomes, and ensuring inclusive access to education, particularly for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Officials reported that the education-centric interventions have led to improved enrollment, attendance, and retention rates in government schools across the state, reinforcing the government's commitment to cultivating a skilled and confident generation for the future of Assam.
