Sarma, during the inauguration of the newly built stadium at Golaghat Government Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School in Golaghat district, stated, “We are committed to revitalizing the infrastructure of schools in Assam. The state government has launched an ambitious initiative to transform 4,000 high and higher secondary schools into modern ‘dream hubs’ by 2035.”
Each school is set to receive Rs 8 crore to facilitate extensive renovations and infrastructure improvements.
“This initiative goes beyond just upgrading existing institutions. We are expanding educational access across the state by building 200 new school facilities every year, ensuring coverage in both urban and rural areas,” Sarma remarked.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of Golaghat Government Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School within Assam’s educational framework.
He emphasized that the school has upheld the tradition of delivering education in the mother tongue for generations, with many alumni achieving recognition for Assam both nationally and internationally.
Additionally, Sarma expressed gratitude to Numaligarh Refinery for their financial support of approximately Rs. 3.50 crores through their Corporate Social Responsibility Program for this project.
On the establishment of a sports museum within the complex, he noted that several renowned sportspersons from Assam have donated medals, jerseys, and sporting equipment to the museum.
Sarma is hopeful that the complex will nurture sporting talent from the Golaghat district, while also taking steps to preserve Assam’s traditional sports.
He added that the construction of a new building for the institution, with an allocation of Rs. 8 crores, is progressing rapidly.
In response to requests from school officials regarding the preservation of the historic school building, the Chief Minister urged the local MLA to take appropriate actions.
Sarma further commented on the broader development within the Golaghat district, noting progress across various sectors.
While laying the foundation stone for a Rs 130 crores project aimed at supplying 24-hour drinking water to around 55,000 residents of Golaghat town from the Dhansiri River, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving public utilities.
He also cited the development of significant infrastructure facilities, including Golaghat Engineering College, Medical College, Cancer Hospital, the new District Commissioner’s Office, and enhanced road connectivity under the Asom Mala Programme, as proof of the district's ongoing growth.
