New Delhi, Sep 18 (NationPress) In a momentous decision for senior Samajwadi Party figure and former cabinet minister Mohammad Azam Khan, the Allahabad High Court on Thursday provided him with bail concerning the contentious Rampur ‘Quality Bar’ land acquisition case.
The ruling was issued by a single Bench presided over by Justice Sameer Jain, following the arguments presented on August 21, which had led to the order being reserved.
Khan, currently incarcerated, had appealed to the High Court after his bail application was dismissed by the Rampur MP-MLA court on May 17, 2025.
This case revolves around accusations that Khan and several others unlawfully seized land belonging to the well-known Quality Bar located along the highway in Said Nagar Hardoi Patti, which falls under the jurisdiction of Rampur’s Civil Lines police station.
The dispute traces back to November 21, 2019, when the bar's proprietor, Gagan Arora, lodged a complaint citing encroachment.
In response to the complaint, the then Revenue Inspector Anangraj Singh filed an FIR listing multiple parties, including Rampur Municipal Chairman Syed Jafar Ali Jafri, Azam Khan's spouse and former MP Tazeen Fatma, and his son, ex-MLA Abdullah Azam Khan.
Throughout the investigation, the police also named Azam Khan as a defendant in the case.
Subsequently, his bail request was submitted to the Rampur MP-MLA court; however, it was denied earlier this year, prompting him to approach the High Court.
The High Court's ruling now facilitates Khan's release in this matter.
Notably, this marks Azam Khan's third consecutive legal victory within a week.
Previously, on September 10, the High Court had granted him bail in the Dungarpur matter, while on September 16, the Rampur court had absolved him in a contempt of court case.
Khan, once regarded as the Muslim representative of the Samajwadi Party and a close ally of party elder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has found himself mired in a series of legal disputes in recent years, encompassing allegations of land seizures and corruption.
