Ayodhya, Sep 25 (NationPress) Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Awadhesh Prasad expressed support for party leader Akhilesh Yadav's assertion that all legal actions against Mohammad Azam Khan, a former Uttar Pradesh minister, will be dismissed when the party reclaims power in 2027.
"We will form the government in 2027, and Akhilesh Yadav will take the role of Chief Minister. Within 48 hours of our government being established, all cases against Azam Khan will be annulled," Awadhesh Prasad stated to IANS.
He referred to Azam Khan as "a highly respected individual and one of the senior leaders in the Samajwadi Party." Awadhesh Prasad alleged that the BJP government has wrongfully targeted Azam Khan with fabricated charges and false evidence.
"The BJP has constructed false narratives to frame him. He has spent nearly two years in custody due to these politically motivated allegations, which will backfire on the BJP in the near future," he remarked.
When asked about the rumors of Azam Khan switching political allegiance, Prasad categorically rejected those claims.
“Such discussions hold no merit. There are even speculations about the central government potentially collapsing soon, which are unfounded. The idea of Azam Khan joining another party is equally baseless,” he remarked.
Azam Khan was released from Sitapur jail after nearly 23 months of incarceration. His release was initially set for 8 a.m. but was postponed due to unpaid fines of Rs 8,000 across two cases. His attorney, Sadnam Singh, later handled the payment, facilitating his release.
On September 18, the Allahabad High Court granted bail to Azam Khan in the Quality Bar land grab case, which had been filed at the Civil Lines police station in Rampur. Previously, on September 10, he received bail in another case linked to the alleged forced eviction of residents from Dungarpur colony in Rampur.
Additionally, Azam Khan was recently acquitted by a special MP-MLA court in a 17-year-old case related to accusations of road blockades and harm to public property.
Over the years, a total of 16 FIRs have been filed against Azam Khan, encompassing a variety of criminal allegations.
