Kolkata, Nov 18 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is set to travel to North Bengal later in November to oversee the party's preparations for the upcoming 2026 state Assembly elections.
As per sources from the Trinamool Congress, Banerjee's journey will kick off in Cooch Behar on November 25.
His itinerary includes several districts in north Bengal, such as Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and North Dinajpur.
During his visit, Banerjee will assess the status of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal's electoral rolls and review the operations of the war rooms and party camps established in each Assembly constituency.
According to party insiders, Banerjee is expected to engage in detailed discussions about the electoral strategies with district leadership.
“Our booth-level agents, known as BLAs, are actively assisting in the completion of enumeration forms. A significant number of individuals are seeking assistance from party workers. Prior to this initiative, Banerjee had clearly directed during a virtual meeting that we must provide support in 6,200 party camps across the state,” reported the sources.
Banerjee's itinerary also includes visits to various war rooms and camps where he will interact with party members on-site. Additionally, he will review organizational preparations and deliver essential instructions. A unique report is expected to be compiled for each district.
Furthermore, there is ongoing speculation regarding a new 'Trinamoole Naba Jowar' (mass outreach campaign) initiative that may be launched before the Assembly elections.
It is believed that Banerjee might unveil this campaign in a revised format during his visit to North Bengal.
In 2023, Banerjee executed a two-and-a-half-month-long mass outreach campaign titled 'Trinamoole Naba Jowar,' which included extensive campaigning through rallies, padyatras, and public meetings.
This campaign proved extremely successful, helping the Trinamool Congress regain lost ground in Bengal during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, the Trinamool Congress secured 29 seats, an increase from their 22 seats in the 2019 general elections.
Conversely, the BJP has established a stronghold in North Bengal concerning Assembly elections.
In the 2021 state Assembly polls, the BJP won 30 out of 54 Assembly seats in the eight north Bengal districts, even as the Trinamool Congress retained power in Bengal.
Consequently, to improve the party's prospects in North Bengal, Banerjee is placing special emphasis on this region, making his forthcoming visit highly significant.
