Kolkata, Dec 24 (NationPress) A F M Bahauddin Nasim, a former Member of Parliament (MP) from Bangladesh, claimed on Wednesday that the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus is transforming the South Asian nation into a terrorist state and is allegedly facilitating a handover of power to Pakistan.

In an exclusive interview with IANS, Nasim, who also serves as the Joint General Secretary of the Awami League, stated that the Yunus administration has brought Bangladesh to a critical state of destruction marked by riots, killings, and a considerable breakdown of the rule of law.

"Ongoing riots, destruction of property, and killings are rampant. Members of the Awami League are being murdered, while religious minorities are targeted and their homes are torched. Political workers and ordinary citizens who supported the Awami League are under threat. This lawlessness has persisted for the past 16 months, aiming to push Bangladesh toward utter devastation," the former MP remarked.

His comments come amid an alarming surge in violence across Bangladesh, leading to extensive property damage and attacks on religious minorities, particularly the Hindus.

"Fundamentalist and terrorist groups are emerging in Bangladesh. They align with Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatra Shibir, and even the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. These factions seem to be collaborating with the Yunus government, which is steering the nation toward destruction. The Yunus administration appears intent on transforming Bangladesh into a terrorist haven and transferring control to Pakistan. Currently, the rule of law has vanished in Bangladesh, with no administration or democratic and fundamental rights left for the populace. Freedoms of speech and press are severely restricted," Nasim added.

After the ousting of the Awami League government led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, Nasim fled to India. He described the ongoing chaos in Bangladesh, stating it has not abated for over 14 months and that there is a significant presence of Pakistani influence and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) activities in the country.

"Muhammad Yunus is pro-Pakistan, and his connections with the ISI are evident. We've observed ships arriving from Karachi laden with grains, something unprecedented in the past 54 years. Previously, we exported rice to India at reasonable prices, but now we are compelled to import rice from Pakistan. Does Pakistan cultivate rice? Who benefits financially from this arrangement? Bangladesh's economy should not be subservient to Pakistan. We fought against them for our independence. We cannot surrender Bangladesh to them," Nasim asserted.

He further emphasized, "Bangladesh belongs to the Bengalis. We do not bow to anyone. We advocate for friendly relations and uphold amity and brotherhood, which are integral to our heritage and tradition."

According to Nasim, the current interim government is attempting to rewrite history to foster a pro-Pakistani sentiment within the country.

"The objective of the Yunus administration is to obliterate the sacrifices and aspirations of the 'Muktiyodhas' (Freedom Fighters). They aim to convert Bangladesh into a bastion for pro-Pakistani supporters. Agents of the ISI and affiliates of the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba are becoming increasingly active, seemingly attempting to seize control. In Bangladesh today, you cannot chant 'Joy Bangla' or even mention Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the leader who liberated us from Pakistan. Their efforts to revise history books and erase the contributions of the 'Muktiyodhas' are evident; they seek to rewrite history to avenge their defeat in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War," the former MP concluded.
