Are EROs Unable to Track AEROs' Progress in Bengal's SIR?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 21 (NationPress) Abhishek Banerjee, the All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, highlighted several breaches of protocol by officials involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal.
“It has been observed that EROs can no longer track AEROs' progress on the ECINet portal concerning the SIR implementation in Bengal. This constitutes a TRIPLE VIOLATION,” Banerjee stated on X.
The Trinamool Congress MP went on to elaborate on the specific norms that these officials are accused of violating.
Banerjee also revealed alleged WhatsApp messages from West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manoj Agarwal, taken from an official WhatsApp group.
“This TRIPLE VIOLATION undermines constitutional governance by eroding institutional checks and balances, paving the way for ARBITRARY and ILLEGAL DELETION of voters at the discretion of AEROs,” he wrote.
Furthermore, Banerjee remarked, “What is even more troubling is the cavalier and dismissive attitude encountered when this serious issue was escalated to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal through the District Election Officers. This reflects the deeply entrenched BABU CULTURE that has come to define the Election Commission’s operations, as implicitly rebuked by the Supreme Court just yesterday.”
Banerjee reiterated that no one has the right to unilaterally decide the democratic entitlements of Bengal's voters.
“The BANGLA-BIRODHI ZAMINDARS who think they can manipulate the system and run a voter deletion racket must realize that they will face consequences, both legally and publicly,” he asserted.
Previously, Banerjee had shared WhatsApp conversations that allegedly demonstrate the Election Commission of India's (ECI) blatant disregard for Supreme Court directives.
In a social media post, he released WhatsApp messages from IAS officer C Murugan, the special electoral roll observer (SERO) assigned for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of West Bengal's electoral rolls, directing other officials.
