Kolkata, Oct 5 (NationPress) A political controversy has ignited in West Bengal surrounding the Durga Puja carnival organized by the Mamata government and the BJP's protest march on Sunday. The Red Road is beautifully adorned for the Durga Puja celebrations, while BJP leaders prepare to hold a procession to draw attention to the recent electrocution fatalities in Kolkata.
The carnival is set to commence at 4 p.m., with the BJP's procession scheduled for 3 p.m.
Authorities have implemented robust security measures to ensure both events proceed without incident.
Initially, the Kolkata Police denied permission for the BJP's parade, organized by the party's think tank 'Khola Hawa', citing the overlapping Puja carnival.
However, the Calcutta High Court later approved the procession with specific conditions.
It was mandated that the procession’s route be altered, shifting from College Square to Central Avenue to a different path.
Regarding this, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma stated, "We acknowledge the High Court's directive. Arrangements are being made on our part. Since the procession is moving from College Square toward Dorina Crossing, we anticipate minimal issues, although there may be some traffic disruptions. We are devising strategies to manage the traffic effectively."
Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, expressed his frustration with the state administration.
"The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is failing in its duties. Numerous individuals have lost their lives due to electrocution in Kolkata recently. The civic body has not prevented the tragedy. Today, we will take to the streets in protest," Adhikari declared.
In response, Kunal Ghosh, the Trinamool Congress state general secretary, remarked, "The Durga Puja carnival has evolved into a global festival. It symbolizes the globalization of Puja through the initiatives of the Mamata Banerjee government. The opposition is attempting to divert attention from the carnival by organizing their procession on the same day. The grandeur of the carnival will eclipse their event, and the opposition will be disheartened to witness such a magnificent display."
