Kolkata, Sep 12 (NationPress) - The Chief of BJP's Information Technology Cell and the party's central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, expressed his concerns on Friday regarding the troubling silence of the state administration surrounding the mysterious death of a female student from Kolkata's renowned Jadavpur University (JU), which occurred on the university grounds.
On Friday morning, Malviya released a statement posing three critical questions about the incident, notably questioning the administration's lack of response.
"Was she drugged and assaulted before her death? Why is there silence from the authorities and police? Why is this being treated as just an 'accident'?" - these were the poignant questions raised by Malviya on social media.
The incident follows closely a year after the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
"Why are only female students vulnerable on campuses in Bengal?" Malviya further inquired.
He emphasized that student organizations and rights groups must call for a thorough investigation and that CCTV footage should be scrutinized. "No cover-up by the Mamata Banerjee administration should be tolerated," he asserted.
"We will maintain the victim's anonymity and dignity until the facts emerge - in stark contrast to the RG Kar incident, where the Police Commissioner breached basic decency by disclosing the victim's name. Bengal's campuses should be safe havens for students, not crime scenes," he added.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which will help determine the cause of death.
Questions are surfacing regarding what led the deceased student to the isolated area next to the water body on campus during late hours, especially when a cultural event was ongoing.
The police have initiated an investigation to ascertain whether she was lured to the water body or if she went there willingly.
"Given that microphones were in use during the cultural event, any cry for help from the student would have likely gone unheard amidst the festivities," noted an insider from JU.
