Kolkata, March 9 (NationPress) The BJP is gearing up for a comprehensive and extensive protest regarding the ongoing turmoil at Kolkata's Jadavpur University (JU) in the upcoming days, post the conclusion of the higher secondary examinations, stated West Bengal's Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, on Sunday.
"On March 16, we will host a citizen's convention at Jadavpur. Once the higher secondary examination wraps up, we will be organizing events outside the campus. These events aim to raise public awareness regarding the anti-national activities taking place," he remarked during a protest rally against the March 1 incident at the university, which left two students significantly injured and hospitalized after allegedly being struck by the vehicle of West Bengal's education minister, Bratya Basu.
Adhikari emphasized that they will persist in their calls for the apprehension of Bratya Basu and his associate, Trinamool Congress leader Om Prakash Mishra. He accused both CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress of being accountable for the current crisis at Jadavpur University.
His remarks followed skepticism expressed by some BJP leaders suggesting that the chaos on March 1 at Jadavpur University was merely a performance orchestrated collaboratively by Trinamool Congress and CPI(M).
BJP councilor in Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Sajal Ghosh, stated that since his party has become the primary political adversary of Trinamool Congress in West Bengal while the Left parties have diminished in significance, the March 1 chaos at Jadavpur University could be a strategy by Trinamool Congress to portray CPI(M) and its student wing, SFI, as still relevant.
"The turmoil on March 1 within the university was a scripted drama produced by Trinamool Congress and directed by CPI(M), with the state Education Minister merely playing a role," Ghosh asserted.
The unrest erupted on March 1 when the Minister's vehicle was reportedly halted as it entered the campus, leading to a confrontation. Students were demanding immediate elections for the university's student council.
The protesting students alleged that while Basu attempted to exit the campus amid the demonstrations, his vehicle intentionally struck two of the protesting students, resulting in severe injuries that necessitated hospitalization. During the protests, the Minister sustained minor injuries and fell ill. He was subsequently taken to the state-run S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital and was later discharged.
