Kolkata, Mar 6 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing situation at Kolkata's Jadavpur University (JU) following the March 1 incident on campus, West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has organized a meeting with the vice-chancellors of all state universities in the region for Friday.
A press release from the Governor's office on Thursday stated that the Governor, who serves as the chancellor of all state-run universities, has summoned the vice-chancellors to explore potential solutions to the crisis at Jadavpur University.
It was mentioned that a fact-finding team has been appointed by the Governor’s office to investigate all facets of the matter.
The turmoil erupted on Saturday when the Minister's vehicle was reportedly obstructed upon entering the campus, leading to a confrontation. The protesting students were calling for immediate elections to the university's student council.
The protesting students claimed that as Basu attempted to leave the area in response to the protests, his vehicle intentionally collided with two students who were protesting, resulting in severe injuries that required hospitalization. During the clashes, the Minister sustained minor injuries and felt unwell, necessitating a visit to the state-operated S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital, from which he was later discharged.
On Friday, Kolkata Police lodged an FIR against Basu, his driver, and Trinamool Congress leader Om Prakash Mishra based on the allegations from the protesting students.
This FIR was filed following a directive from the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, instructing the Kolkata Police to register FIRs based on the complaints from the university's protesting students rather than solely on those from the Trinamool Congress-affiliated West Bengal College & University Professors’ Association (WBCUPA), of which Basu is the president.
