Kolkata, Feb 12 (NationPress) The Chief of BJP's IT Cell and the party's central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, voiced his condemnation of the Mamata Banerjee-led administration on Thursday in light of an alleged assault on a mother and daughter by a shopkeeper and his son in Baruipur, located in the South 24 Parganas district.

The allegations state that the women were reportedly attacked following a dispute at a local store. Malviya shared a video on his X handle in which the women recounted their experience and labeled the incident as “shameful and unacceptable”.

“A concerning incident has emerged from Baruipur East, South 24-Parganas, West Bengal. A Hindu woman adorned with a tilak, accompanied by her daughter, attempted to buy vegetables but was denied service. Upon protesting, she faced abuse and was even slapped by the shopkeeper’s son,” Malviya stated.

He emphasized that such occurrences threaten the essence of coexistence and mutual respect. “This is profoundly shameful and intolerable. No individual should endure discrimination, abuse, or violence due to their faith or appearance. West Bengal has historically championed coexistence and mutual respect; incidents of this nature tarnish that harmony,” he remarked.

Malviya called for immediate action from the authorities to ensure justice for the victims. “Authorities must act promptly, conduct a thorough investigation, and impose strict penalties on those accountable. Law and order must be upheld, and every citizen should feel safe and treated equally. Discrimination and violence in any form are unacceptable,” he urged.

In the video circulated online, the women were identified as Namita Biswas and Pallabi Biswas. They claimed to have been assaulted after visiting the shop for purchases and subsequently filed a complaint with local law enforcement against the shopkeeper and his son.

According to police sources, the complaint has been received, and the situation is currently under investigation. At the time of this report, no arrests had been made related to the incident.

Point of View

This incident underscores the urgent need for law enforcement and governmental accountability in ensuring the safety of all citizens. The disturbing nature of the assault raises broader questions about social harmony and the responsibilities of local authorities in addressing such grave issues effectively.
