Kolkata, July 28 (NationPress) The chief of BJP’s Information Technology (IT) cell and central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, on Monday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of making baseless claims regarding the harassment of Bengali-speaking individuals in BJP-ruled states, asserting that she has no evidence to support her allegations.

Malviya further criticized Banerjee for involving innocent children in unrelated incidents purely for political gain, accusing her of manipulating language politics.

His remarks came in response to a social media post by the Chief Minister, where she shared a video alleging that a child and his mother, from a migrant family in West Bengal's Malda district, were assaulted by police in New Delhi.

“In her eagerness to protect illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, West Bengal's Chief Minister is now exploiting language issues and bringing innocent children into unrelated matters just to gain political leverage. She fails to provide any evidence that Indian citizens from West Bengal are being mistreated by law enforcement,” Malviya stated in reaction to the video.

He also highlighted instances where “Bengali women” have faced harassment and violence in West Bengal.

“Let’s remember: the courageous women of Sandeshkhali were Bengali too. So was the doctor at RG Kar and the student at Calcutta Law College. Her selective anger is evident,” Malviya added.

Furthermore, he accused the Chief Minister and her government of permitting situations where “Hindu Bengalis” faced violence from “aggressive Islamist groups” across various districts in West Bengal.

“From Malda to Murshidabad to Birbhum, she has allowed violent Islamist groups to intimidate vulnerable Hindu Bengalis—while expressing false sympathy for Bengali-speaking intruders. This risky game of appeasement and communal politics will be met with resistance,” Malviya emphasized.

His comments come as Mamata Banerjee prepares to initiate her party's extended weekend protest against the alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking individuals in BJP-ruled states, starting with a rally in Birbhum district later today.

The choice of Birbhum for the protest launch, which Mamata Banerjee calls another “Bhasha Andolan (Language Movement),” is significant due to the district's deep ties to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore and the Visva Bharati University he founded at Bolpur-Santiniketan.

Political analysts suggest that Banerjee has strategically chosen this district to leverage the nostalgic sentiments associated with Gurudev.

Point of View

This controversy encapsulates the ongoing political tug-of-war in West Bengal. It highlights the delicate balance between regional sentiments and national politics, with both parties vying for control over narratives that resonate with the electorate. As the situation unfolds, it will be crucial to observe the implications of these allegations on communal harmony and political stability.
