Kolkata, Aug 13 (NationPress) The BJP asserted on Wednesday that the allegations made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the supposed eviction of Bengali-speaking migrant workers from a colony in New Delhi have been debunked by her own party’s MP in Parliament.
The head of the BJP's information technology cell, Amit Malviya, who is also the party's central observer for West Bengal, stated that in the Lok Sabha, actress-turned-politician June Maliah, the MP representing Medinipur, raised a question pertaining to the “evictions” of Bengali-speaking migrant workers in Jai Hind Colony, Vasant Kunj.
The reality, as disclosed in the government’s response, is that no eviction operation occurred, there was no disruption to the water supply, and not a single complaint was lodged with the Delhi Jal Board, aside from one social media post, Malviya mentioned in a statement on social media platform X earlier on Wednesday.
He further claimed that merely two electricity connections were terminated, and this was executed under the direction of a civil court.
“Once again, the misleading narratives of the TMC have been unveiled in Parliament through their inquiry! Bengalis are not being targeted, as falsely suggested by Mamata Banerjee to deflect attention from her misgovernance. Facts resonate louder than their fabrications,” Malviya asserted.
He also shared the question and the response on his X handle, dated July 31.
To recall, a heated exchange of words transpired last month on social media between BJP's Amit Malviya and Mamata Banerjee regarding the alleged eviction and mistreatment of Bengali-speaking migrant workers in Delhi's Jai Hind Colony.
On July 10, Malviya released a statement on social media claiming that false narratives were being propagated suggesting that political motives were behind the actions taken at Jai Hind Colony.
He argued that the actions were enforced due to a court order, stating, "The actions being executed are based on a court order -- not political motives. The settlement in question is unlawful, and the law is merely being upheld. It is not coincidental that just days ago, 26 illegal Bangladeshis were apprehended in this very vicinity,” according to Malviya's statement.
A few hours post his statement on X, CM Banerjee issued a strongly worded response on her official X account, expressing her deep concern over reports of harassment emerging from Jai Hind Colony in New Delhi's Vasant Kunj -- a settlement largely populated by Bengalis.
“Their water supply was allegedly cut on orders from the BJP-led government. Electricity meters were seized, and power was abruptly terminated days prior. Residents also reported that the Delhi Police, supported by Rapid Action Force personnel, obstructed private water tankers they had arranged and financed. A forced eviction is reportedly underway despite the matter being sub-judice following another incident last December involving the Delhi Police. How can we uphold a democratic Republic if fundamental rights to shelter, water, and electricity are being violated?” the Chief Minister's statement concluded.
