Bengaluru, June 6 (NationPress) Authorities have apprehended four individuals, including Nikhil Sosale, the Marketing Head for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), along with staff members from DNA Event Management, in relation to the tragic stampede that occurred near Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulting in the loss of 11 lives. The police confirmed the arrests took place during a coordinated operation at Bengaluru International Airport.
The suspects were reportedly in transit to Mumbai when they were detained. The police also conducted searches at the residences of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Secretary Shankar and KSCA Treasurer Jayaram.
The operation was executed by personnel from Cubbon Park police and the special unit of the Central Crime Branch (CCB). The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated at the Cubbon Park Police Station under the supervision of Seshadripuram Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
Despite not receiving permission for the victory parade, Sosale had posted about the event on social media, later deleting the message. He also announced that free tickets would be available at the stadium for the celebration, stating they could be collected at Gate numbers 9 and 10 on Wednesday at 1 p.m., without making the necessary arrangements.
Moreover, a post from the official handle of the Royal Challengers indicated that entry would begin at 3 p.m., attracting a massive crowd, according to police reports. The DNA Company acted in accordance with Sosale's directives. Out of the 21 gates, only three were opened, leading to chaos.
In response to the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the suspension of five senior police officials, including the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and the DCP (Central Division).
This incident, which the Chief Minister described as unprecedented during his tenure as an MLA, minister, Deputy CM, and Chief Minister, has left deep sorrow in the community.
The FIR filed by the Karnataka Police alleges that the parties involved—RCB, DNA Event Management, and the KSCA Administrative Committee—organized the victory celebration without the required permissions. Charges have been brought under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including culpable homicide and unlawful assembly.
