Bengaluru, June 6 (NationPress) On Friday, the authorities escalated their search for four additional suspects linked to the tragic stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that resulted in 11 fatalities.
Previously, four individuals, including the Marketing Head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and staff from DNA Event Management Company, were apprehended at the airport.
The Cubbon Park police, who initiated the case, are collaborating with a specialized team from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) to conduct a coordinated investigation.
According to insider information, the search is focused on Rajesh Menon, Head and Vice President of RCB; K.T. Majeed, Director and Chief Financial Officer of the DNA Event Management Firm; A. Shankar, Secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA); and Treasurer Jayaram.
Reports indicate that Rajesh has fled the Indiranagar area of Bengaluru. Authorities have learned that Shankar and Jayaram escaped in the same vehicle shortly before police executed searches at their homes.
There are indications that both KSCA officials are attempting to seek bail from the High Court to avoid arrest in this case.
Meanwhile, DCP Akshay M. is questioning the apprehended suspects: Nikhil Sosale, Head of Marketing for RCB, along with Sunil Matthew, Kiran, and Sumanth from DNA Event Management. Police are preparing to document their statements.
Further confirmations suggest that the case will be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by the end of the day once the team is equipped.
The detained suspects were en route to Mumbai. All four have been taken to the Cubbon Park Police Station, where they are undergoing interrogation.
Despite not receiving permission for the victory parade, Sosale made a social media post about it, which he later deleted, according to police.
He also proclaimed that free tickets would be available at the stadium for the celebration event.
He allegedly further stated that tickets would be distributed at Gate numbers 9 and 10 at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, without making any arrangements for distribution.
The official handle of the Royal Challengers also posted that entry would start at 3 p.m., leading to a gathering of lakhs of attendees, according to police reports.
The DNA Company acted under Sosale's directives. Out of 21 gates, only three were opened, resulting in chaos.
Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Thursday the suspension of five senior police officials, including the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and DCP (Central Division), due to the stampede on June 4. He also instructed the arrest of the organizers of the victory celebrations.
"Such an incident has not happened during my tenure as an MLA, minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Chief Minister. This event has profoundly saddened us," he expressed.
The FIR filed by the Karnataka Police claims that the accused parties — the RCB franchise, the DNA event management firm, and the KSCA Administrative Committee — conducted the victory celebration without the required permissions.
The FIR has been recorded under multiple sections, including 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and others, as stated in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
