Bengaluru, June 9 (NationPress) - DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd, identified as a suspect in the FIR filed by the Karnataka police concerning the tragic Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede on June 4, which resulted in the loss of 11 lives, has approached the High Court on Monday seeking to annul the FIR against it.

DNA argued before the court that the decision to organize the celebratory event at Chinnaswamy Stadium was made by the government along with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The government itself had extended invitations for public participation in this event.

“When India celebrated its T20 World Cup victory in Mumbai, a similar event took place without any incidents despite the attendance of 300,000 people. The Wankhede Stadium, which holds 32,000, reported no such occurrences,” stated DNA.

The petition highlighted that the state government chose to host an event in front of the Vidhana Soudha, where security was markedly stronger, while the law enforcement presence at the stadium was deemed inadequate. The firm had engaged 584 private security personnel. The petition contends that the state has instigated arrests to divert attention from its own oversights.

According to the Chief Minister's orders, two staff members from DNA have been detained.

The petition further mentioned that on the day of the celebration, 2,450 food packets were prepared for police personnel at Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, by noon on June 4, only 600 packets were collected by the police, with all 2,450 consumed during the night. Even after the gates opened at 3:30 PM, a massive crowd led to the stampede, which DNA's petition attributed to police lathi charge.

The petition also asserted that the Chief Secretary of Karnataka had meticulously discussed and devised the plan, indicating that the stampede stemmed from the celebratory event organized by the government at Vidhana Soudha.

It was further claimed that the incident arose from the gathering of thousands at both the Vidhana Soudha and Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The police have arrested Nikhil Sosale, the Marketing Head of RCB, along with Sunil Matthew, Kiran, and Sumanth from DNA Event Management concerning the incident. They are currently held at Bengaluru Central Prison, with the CID likely to seek custody.

In an earlier development, the RCB franchise sought the Karnataka High Court's intervention to dismiss the criminal charges filed against them in relation to the stampede.

Detailing RCB's preparations for the event, the petition noted numerous discussions with DNA Event Management and KSCA officials.

The petition underscored that the police had orally confirmed the victory parade and celebrations for June 4. RCB had specified that entry to the stadium was strictly regulated through prior registration on their official website to manage attendance within the stadium's limited capacity.

In the wake of the tragedy, CM Siddaramaiah swiftly initiated damage control measures, announcing the suspension of five senior police officers, including the Bengaluru Commissioner and two other IPS officials.
