Betul, Oct 10 (NationPress) Following a minor road incident involving two bikers from different communities, police have apprehended at least five individuals in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district, with ongoing efforts to locate several others.
As reported, the incident unfolded when Shishupal Yadav, the district head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), was allegedly struck by a bike operated by a Muslim youth at a marketplace in Multai, an area rich in coal mines adjacent to Chhindwara district.
The situation escalated dramatically as individuals from both sides engaged in a physical altercation, leading to a chaotic scene with neighbors from both communities confronting one another on the streets.
Law enforcement intervened promptly, restoring order by separating the conflicting parties.
Subsequently, a group gathered at the Multai police station demanding decisive action against those who allegedly sought to harm RSS leader Shishupal Yadav.
In response to the unrest, Section 144 was implemented in Multai, accompanied by a significant police presence and a police flag march on Friday.
Additional police units were dispatched from neighboring Chhindwara and Pandhurna districts.
The Superintendent of Police in Betul, Veerendra Jain, has taken disciplinary action by suspending two Sub-Inspectors due to their negligence.
BJP leader Rameshwar Sharma, an MLA from Huzur Assembly in Bhopal, characterized the incident as 'unfortunate,' alleging a deliberate attempt by unidentified Muslim youths to harm RSS leader Shishupal Yadav.
Sharma remarked, 'Some Muslim youths made an attempt to harm the Betul district RSS head. The state government will pursue strict action in this matter. I urge Muslim leaders to counsel the youth from their community against engaging in violence,' in an interview with IANS on Friday.
Betul, along with Chhindwara, has recently faced tragedy with the loss of 23 children due to the consumption of Coldrif cough syrup.
Among the deceased, at least three to four were from Betul, while the rest hailed from Chhindwara.
