Chandigarh, Nov 3 (NationPress) The former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jairam Thakur, on Monday, criticized the Congress party for making “fake promises” during their campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar. He emphasized that the party has been thoroughly exposed in the hill state, where it has been in power for almost three years.
Thakur stated, “Similar to their actions in Himachal, the Congress and its allies are employing misleading strategies to deceive voters in Bihar under the guise of election promises. After securing a mandate in Himachal through false guarantees, the Congress is now attempting to replicate this strategy in Bihar. This is evident from the speeches made by Congress leaders during the 2022 Himachal elections compared to their current rhetoric in Bihar,”
he asserted during a media briefing at the Chandigarh Press Club.
He also pointed out that Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu had previously visited Bihar and exceeded his own record for dishonesty.
Thakur claimed, “It is astonishing that he (Sukhu) arrived in Bihar as the Congress’ ambassador for guarantees. The deceptive promises made by the Congress government have once again come to light. Now, the Congress and its coalition will not be able to mislead even a single voter in the country with their false assurances.”
The Leader of Opposition (LoP), Thakur, remarked that there is no need for deceptive guarantees. “We governed for five years and successfully implemented numerous public welfare initiatives such as the Grihini Suvidha Yojana, provision of 125 units of free electricity, discounted bus fares for women, free water in rural regions, Him Care, Sahara Yojana, Shagun Yojana, and old-age pensions without any income criteria post the age of 60…”
“We launched initiatives that genuinely addressed the needs of our citizens. We did not cast blame on previous administrations. We faced global challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. While major governments worldwide faltered and many large corporations laid off employees, we hired new staff and ensured that no worker lost a single day's pay,”
he added.
“In contrast, the Sukhu administration abruptly rendered many individuals jobless, including those who risked their lives to assist others during the pandemic,” Thakur alleged.
The humble six-time legislator, known for his modest demeanor, served as the 13th Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from 2017 to 2022. He believes that governments should function based on good intentions rather than mere guarantees.
“Regrettably, the government in Himachal is flawed in its intentions,” Thakur stated, who has won his sixth consecutive Assembly election from Seraj, previously known as Chirchot, in the Mandi district.
Additionally, he served as a Cabinet minister in the preceding BJP government led by Prem Kumar Dhumal from 2007 to 2012.
