New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) On Saturday, residents voiced their alarm regarding significant safety breaches at the location where a tragic incident resulted in the death of a 25-year-old motorcyclist in Delhi’s Janakpuri. Witnesses reported that the area was devoid of any barricades or appropriate warning lights, with only a couple of barricades on the opposite side. A local resident exclaimed, “Our residence faces the site, and we pass by here multiple times daily. The green cover you see wasn’t there before. No safety measures were properly implemented. The area remains shrouded in darkness, which poses the greatest risk.”

The unfortunate event transpired late Thursday night when Kamal Dhyani, a 25-year-old bike rider, fell into an open pit part of an ongoing project by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) while heading home from work.

Kamal, who resided in Kailashpuri, had just left his office in Rohini to celebrate his parents' wedding anniversary but never returned to his eager family.

His friend recounted that Kamal had informed him he was merely 15 minutes away from home before the accident occurred.

When Kamal did not arrive, his anxious family initiated a frantic search overnight with assistance from local authorities. Despite attempts to locate him through mobile tower data and CCTV footage, no leads were found for several hours.

The heartbreaking discovery of his body occurred around 8 a.m. on Friday when a woman notified the police about a corpse found in a pit.

Law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene and discovered Kamal’s body in a pit nearly 15 feet deep, with his motorcycle overturned nearby.

Local residents have accused the Delhi government’s DJB of serious negligence at the project site, asserting that the pit was left uncovered, inadequately barricaded, and poorly marked, creating a hazardous situation for commuters, especially during nighttime.

Community members also highlighted the lack of adequate lighting in the area, stating that the darkness makes it exceedingly difficult for riders to identify potential dangers on the road.

In response to the accusations, the Delhi Police denied any claims of inaction, affirming that officers remained at the family’s side throughout the night, making continuous efforts to locate Kamal.

This incident has ignited widespread outrage and prompted pressing inquiries into safety protocols at construction sites throughout the city.

Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma described the death as “tragic” and vowed to take decisive action, announcing suspensions and a thorough investigation to determine accountability.

With anger escalating, both residents and family members are demanding responsibility, cautioning that without the enforcement of safety measures, such avoidable tragedies will persist, endangering innocent lives.
