New Delhi, Feb 6 (NationPress) A devastated family is claiming severe negligence following the tragic death of 25-year-old Kamal Dhayani, whose motorcycle fell into a deep pit created by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in West Delhi's Janakpuri. His mother and brother shared heart-wrenching details of his last moments, attributing the incident to the lack of safety precautions.

Kamal’s mother, Shanti, recounted her son’s final call just before the accident.

"He (Kamal) contacted me around noon, stating he was on his way home. After that, I repeatedly tried to reach him, but he didn’t pick up," she lamented, overwhelmed with grief.

His brother, Mayank, mentioned that Kamal was returning home from his job in Rohini and was en route to Palam.

"Everything seemed normal until he arrived at Janakpuri. There was a massive pit dug by the DJB at that spot. There were no barricades, no warnings, and absolutely no safety measures in place. My brother fell into it," he asserted.

According to the police, Kamal’s body and motorcycle were retrieved from the approximately 20-foot-deep pit on Joginder Singh Marg around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, facilitated by the Fire department.

A case has been filed under applicable sections, and law enforcement is currently investigating the precise sequence of events.

This incident led the Delhi government to initiate a comprehensive inquiry into the situation.

Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh announced that the DJB has been instructed to assess the site, evaluate barricading, signage, traffic management, and compliance with safety regulations, while also determining responsibility for any failures.

In response, the DJB stated that an initial investigation indicated the pit was barricaded with green mesh, and a committee has been formed to verify whether all public safety protocols were adhered to.

Any official or contractor found to be negligent will face stringent consequences, the DJB added.

This tragic event has once again sparked significant concerns regarding road safety and accountability at construction sites throughout the national capital.
