Has the BJP Government in Delhi Failed to Improve After a Year? Congress Questions Accountability in Biker Death Case
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Congress leader Udit Raj expressed his strong disapproval regarding the Janakpuri biker death incident, deeming it a representation of administrative shortcomings and challenging the accountability of the BJP-led Delhi government.
Commenting on the tragic event, Udit Raj stated, “This was an accident that led to chaos... However, as is often the case... it eventually fades from public memory without any real action being taken. It has been a year since the BJP took office. The Aam Aadmi Party left potholes, but it’s time for the BJP to demonstrate what improvements they have achieved. They have completed one year. What advancements have been made?”
His statements come in the wake of increasing anger over the death of 25-year-old biker Kamal Dhyani, who tragically passed away after falling into an open pit created by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in Janakpuri while returning from work late at night. New evidence from the FIR in this incident has highlighted significant safety oversights at the project location.
The FIR indicates that the pit, dug as part of a DJB initiative, was left unguarded on a primary road, lacking any warning signs, reflectors, barricades, lighting, or security measures, thereby putting commuters at serious risk. The absence of fundamental safety protocols has raised serious questions regarding the negligence and accountability of the involved agencies.
According to police records, around 8:03 a.m. on Friday (February 6), a PCR call was made to the Janakpuri police station by a woman reporting that a biker had fallen into a deep pit near B-3B Block, Andhra School, Janakpuri. Following this call, DD No. 25A was logged, and ASI Sunil Kumar, along with Constable Samarjeet, hurried to the scene.
Upon arrival, police discovered a man along with his motorcycle, registered as DL9SCJ9478 (Apache 160), lying within a pit in the center of the road. The pit was approximately 20 feet long, 13 feet wide, and about 14-15 feet deep. Initial investigations revealed that the excavation was part of ongoing DJB work.
With assistance from the fire brigade, the injured biker was rescued from the pit and transported in a PCR vehicle to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead on arrival. Police efforts to find eyewitnesses both at the site and the hospital yielded no results. A crime scene team and an FSL team were subsequently summoned for inspection and documentation.
