Should Politics be Stopped Over the Janakpuri Biker's Death?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 6 (NationPress) Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed deep regret over the tragic passing of a young biker who fell into a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) pit in Janakpuri. He criticized leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, for politicizing this unfortunate event.
Sachdeva denounced the thoughtless comments made by AAP figures Arvind Kejriwal and Saurabh Bharadwaj concerning this incident, describing their behavior as that of political vultures exploiting a tragedy.
He challenged Kejriwal and Bharadwaj to respond to the approximately 100 deaths that occurred during the monsoon in 2024 alone due to incidents of electrocution or drowning caused by waterlogging during the previous AAP-led government.
Sachdeva stated that the Delhi BJP stands firmly with the family of the deceased youth, highlighting that Palam BJP MLA Kuldeep Solanki maintained communication with the family, ensuring they received adequate support during the youth's medical treatment and attended the cremation.
Regarding the accident, he noted that following a similar incident in Noida, the Delhi government had heightened awareness. On January 24, the DJB issued a directive mandating proper barricades at every excavation site.
"The directive clearly indicated that in case of any mishap, the project engineer and contractor would bear responsibility," Sachdeva mentioned.
The Delhi BJP President pointed out that upon learning of the accident, Janakpuri MLA and Home Minister Ashish Sood, alongside DJB Minister Parvesh Verma, visited the site and called for a comprehensive investigation into the barricading issue.
"Any human error discovered will lead to accountability for the responsible party, irrespective of their seniority," he asserted.
In other news, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra stated that this year's Union Budget emphasizes the ongoing growth of the national economy alongside the advancement and equal rights for all societal segments—youth, women, the impoverished, and farmers.
"Delhi is fortunate to receive provisions for the Delhi–Varanasi high-speed railway corridor," he added.
He mentioned a budget allocation of Rs 3.21 lakh crore for road transport infrastructure, a significant portion of which will address traffic congestion in Delhi.
Preparations for roads, including the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and Delhi–Katra Expressway, are also complete, he noted.
As part of the Delhi Decongestion Plan, a budget of Rs 24,000 crore has been set aside, which includes the approval for a tunnel near Shivmurti for vehicles traveling from Gurugram to Delhi.
Additionally, plans are in place to link traffic from Katra to Delhi via the airport.
