BJP Accuses AAP of Rs 250 Crore Scam in Delhi's Homeless Shelters

New Delhi, Dec 19 (NationPress) Calling for an inquiry by the Anti-Corruption Branch, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Thursday accused the AAP government and its leader Arvind Kejriwal of participating in a Rs 250 crore scam, alleging that finances allocated for providing shelter to the homeless during winter were misused.

The BJP leader asserted that there are ghost employees listed under the NGOs contracted by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to assist the homeless in shelters.

“We demand an inquiry into the roles of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, relevant ministers, MLAs, and DUSIB officials,” he stated.

Sachdeva pointed out that according to DUSIB's guidelines, each shelter is assigned salaries for 5 to 6 caretaking personnel based on capacity, which is distributed to contractor NGOs.

“However, an investigation by the BJP team revealed substantial fraud in this arrangement. Payments are made for 5-6 caretakers in each shelter, but only 2 are actually present. Our findings indicated 3-4 ghost employees in each shelter,” he claimed.

Advocate Himanshu Sethi, the complainant in this case, mentioned that DUSIB is a department of the Delhi government aimed at aiding the underprivileged by providing shelter homes, yet the AAP government has engaged in corruption even within this charitable endeavor.

The Delhi BJP President remarked that no operations under Arvind Kejriwal or the Atithi government happen without brokerage, bribery, or commission.

“The BJP's legal team found that eight significant NGOs are contracted for maintaining shelter homes in Delhi. Most shelters only employ 2-3 workers, yet salaries for 5-6 are paid out,” he alleged.

Further investigations revealed that the same staff names were recorded across various shelter homes, with matching Aadhaar numbers and bank accounts, raising further suspicions.

“Whether at the shelter in Delhi Gate, Lahori Gate, Turkman Gate, or Mangolpuri, a single Aadhaar card is reportedly being used to draw 3-5 salaries,” he stated.

“This entire issue involves an alleged scam amounting to approximately Rs 250 crore. We have urged the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to investigate and have also lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta.

In a different context, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor criticized Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj for, as part of their government’s annual publicity, standing next to the Mayor of Cambridge, England, and lauding the Delhi government's education model while self-congratulating the administration.

The Mayor of Cambridge did not release any statement or post on social media praising the Delhi government.

The Delhi BJP spokesperson expressed that residents of Delhi expect Minister Bhardwaj to have informed the Cambridge Mayor that 75 percent of Delhi government schools lack adequate facilities for teaching Science and Commerce to underprivileged students.
