Is CM Mamata Misleading on Madhyamik Examination Admit Card Identity Proof?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 22 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of deceiving the public regarding claims that the Election Commission of India (ECI) was "forced" to recognize the Madhyamik Examination admit card as a valid identity document during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearings due to ongoing pressure from the Trinamool Congress in the Supreme Court.
The Madhyamik examination is the secondary assessment administered by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
Amit Malviya, the head of BJP's Information Technology Cell and the party's central observer for West Bengal, released a statement elaborating on why the Chief Minister's assertions were misleading.
Malviya pointed out that a careful examination of the ECI's circular revealed that the 'Madhyamik admit card' would only be considered a valid identification document when presented alongside the 'Madhyamik pass certificate,' and it cannot function as a standalone identity proof.
"The Trinamool Congress made a significant fuss about the admit card being deemed acceptable for SIR, glorifying Mamata Banerjee as if she had achieved a great victory. However, a detailed reading of the ECI's communication reveals the reality. The provision explicitly states: ‘Madhyamik admit card (Class X), which indicates the candidate's date of birth, may be submitted along with the Madhyamik pass certificate during the hearing. This categorizes the admit card as a supplementary document, not an independent proof," Malviya noted in his social media message.
In straightforward terms, this indicates that the admit card alone is insufficient; both the admit card and pass certificate are essential for valid identification, Malviya emphasized.
This implies that any fake, fabricated, or counterfeit admit cards will not withstand scrutiny.
"This spells trouble for Mamata Banerjee's core voter base, many of whom were relying on fraudulent admit cards to gain entry onto the voter list," Malviya remarked.
