Ranchi, Oct 3 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially named Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu as the new working president of its Jharkhand unit, according to a statement from the party.

The announcement was made via an official letter from Arun Singh, the National General Secretary of the BJP.

“The party's National President, Jagat Prakash Nadda, has appointed Aditya Sahu, a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, as the State Working President for Jharkhand, succeeding Ravindra Kumar Ray. This appointment takes effect immediately,” the letter stated.

Ravindra Kumar Ray had held the working president position since October of last year, just ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly elections. Insiders suggest that Ray may be reassigned to another organizational role.

Aditya Sahu hails from Kuchchu village in the Ormanjhi block of Ranchi district and has been affiliated with the BJP for over 20 years. Throughout his tenure, he has held several prominent positions, including Vice President and General Secretary of the state party.

Professionally, Sahu worked as a lecturer at Ram Tahal Choudhary College until 2019, prior to his election to the Rajya Sabha in July 2022.

At the age of 61, Sahu's promotion is viewed as a strategic political maneuver by the BJP leadership. As a member of the influential Vaishya community, traditionally a strong support base for the party, his appointment is likely intended to strengthen social alliances and balance caste dynamics within the state unit.

This development occurs as the term of state BJP president Babulal Marandi has concluded, leading to speculation about forthcoming leadership changes.

Former Chief Minister Raghubar Das, also from the Vaishya community, has been mentioned as a potential candidate. However, with Sahu now holding a significant position, analysts believe the party may opt to appoint a leader from the tribal or OBC communities for the state president role, aiming to expand its appeal.

Point of View

The appointment of Aditya Sahu as the working president of the Jharkhand BJP reflects the party's strategic intent to strengthen its foothold in the region. This move highlights the BJP's focus on balancing caste dynamics while ensuring experienced leadership. As political landscapes evolve, this decision will be pivotal in influencing future electoral strategies and community alignments.
