The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to undertake another round of organisational restructuring ahead of the Durga Puja festival in October, with changes anticipated at the district, mandal, and booth levels, according to party insiders. The exercise is aimed at reinforcing the party's grassroots machinery following its rise to power in the state earlier this year.

Scope of the Reshuffle

Party sources indicate the restructuring will primarily target the three tiers of organisational districts, mandals (blocks), and booths. A limited number of changes at the state committee level are also on the table, particularly for BJP MLAs who have recently been inducted into the state Cabinet.

According to party insiders, such legislators may be relieved of their organisational duties in keeping with the BJP's established 'one person, one post' policy. However, a state committee member noted that this norm will not apply uniformly — certain state ministers who also hold organisational positions are expected to retain their party roles.

Action Against Complaint-Holders

Leaders against whom complaints have been filed at the state level over the past two months are reportedly being considered for removal from their current positions. Party sources say the move is part of a broader effort to cleanse the organisational hierarchy and sideline controversial figures from key posts — a signal that the new dispensation intends to hold its own ranks accountable.

Central Leadership Nominations in the Works

The state leadership is also understood to be weighing recommendations for two Bengal leaders for positions in the BJP's central hierarchy, including the posts of national vice-president and national secretary.

Notably, Dilip Ghosh — former state BJP president and current Panchayat Affairs and Rural Development Minister — had previously served as the party's national vice-president. Rahil Sinha, a Rajya Sabha MP, had held the post of national secretary. Both leaders have also served as state BJP presidents in the past.

Blocking 'Undesirable Elements' from Joining

A separate but related concern has emerged around former Trinamool Congress (TMC) grassroots leaders facing serious corruption allegations, several of whom have reportedly attempted to join the BJP following the change of government in West Bengal. The state leadership has, according to party insiders, instructed workers not to permit the entry of such 'undesirable elements'.

'The organisational reshuffle is also intended to induct long-time party workers at the grassroots level who can effectively prevent the entry of such elements,' a state committee member said.

This comes amid a wider pattern seen in states where the BJP transitions from opposition to power — the party has historically faced pressure from opportunistic entrants seeking to ride the incumbency advantage. With the 2026 West Bengal assembly election still on the horizon, the timing of this consolidation effort carries clear electoral significance.
