Srinagar, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir has called for an inquiry by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) into various local NGOs and welfare organizations active in the Union Territory.
BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur stated during a press conference that the MHA should investigate the existence of terror modules within Jammu and Kashmir and the involvement of NGOs, welfare institutions, trusts, and other entities.
"With over 16,000 NGOs in Jammu and Kashmir, there are significant concerns. We possess adequate evidence indicating that funds directed towards these NGOs are being misappropriated for financing terrorism. The MHA inquiry must uncover their connections and track the pathways and origins of this funding. The investigation should also identify sources of foreign funding from nations like Japan and the UK. Numerous NGOs are allegedly attempting to resurrect terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir through networks operating abroad, particularly in the Gulf region and other foreign territories.
"We are urging the Union Home Minister to take stringent action against these networks and modules, especially since white-collar terror modules have already been discovered," he emphasized.
Thakur added that only 239 of the nearly 16,000 NGOs in Jammu and Kashmir are officially registered.
"Who grants them permission to operate? Where is the funding for these unregistered NGOs sourced from? A number of these organizations receive government support, necessitating an evaluation of how such funds are being utilized. An audit and verification of the assets of all these organizations is crucial. A thorough investigation into their funding sources, both foreign and domestic, must be undertaken to ascertain who is financing them and for what purpose," Thakur asserted.
He further highlighted the need to scrutinize the political affiliations of these organizations, suggesting that some might be functioning with political endorsement.
"It is imperative to determine which organizations are genuinely dedicated to public welfare and which are being exploited for activities detrimental to national interests," Thakur concluded.
Thakur reiterated that the BJP seeks an MHA investigation to ensure transparency and accountability. He stressed that strict measures should be taken against any organization found to be involved in unlawful or anti-national activities, asserting that such actions are essential for maintaining peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir.
