Srinagar, Feb 4 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to embark on a significant three-day journey to Jammu and Kashmir starting February 5, aimed at conducting a thorough security assessment, reviewing developmental initiatives, and interacting with political figures. Reactions from leaders of various political parties to this visit have been a blend of optimism, anticipated outcomes, and some political apprehensions.

This visit is anticipated to feature high-level discussions with security personnel and administrative officials, focusing on the current law and order situation as well as the progression of ongoing governance and infrastructure projects.

In response to the announcement, BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa expressed his support for the Home Minister’s visit, viewing it as a vital indication of the Centre’s dedication to Jammu and Kashmir. He stated to IANS that such visits serve to uplift the morale of security forces and reinforce the government's zero-tolerance stance towards terrorism and unrest.

“The Home Minister’s presence in Jammu is always a positive step. It reflects his concern for the circumstances in Jammu and Kashmir. This three-day engagement will undoubtedly boost the spirits of our security personnel. It illustrates that both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are firmly committed to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism,” Randhawa remarked.

Conversely, PDP MLA Syed Muntazir Mehdi characterized the visit as a routine occurrence, yet he stressed the importance of political outreach. He articulated that while assessments of security and administrative matters are vital, achieving enduring stability in Jammu and Kashmir necessitates the restoration of political rights and dialogues with relevant parties.

“From my perspective, the Home Minister's visit is a customary affair. He will review the security and administrative landscape, but it is equally crucial to advance political initiatives. The restoration of political rights and initiating discussions with stakeholders is essential for sustainable stability in the region,” Mehdi noted.

PDP MLA Waheed Para also acknowledged the visit but raised alarms over the increasing instances of alleged hate crimes against individuals from Jammu and Kashmir, especially students studying in other states. He appealed to the Centre to implement measures for their protection.

“While the visit is commendable, the most urgent concern is the hate crimes targeting individuals from Jammu and Kashmir, particularly students in areas like Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. We seek assurances from the Government of India and urge the Home Minister to establish mechanisms to avert such occurrences,” Para stated.

JKNC MLA Hasnain Masoodi voiced hope that this visit would also tackle political issues, particularly the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, which was promised following the reorganization of the region in 2019.

“Since 2019, we have been anticipating discussions regarding the restoration of statehood, as was previously promised,” Masoodi said.

Officials indicated that this visit is timely, as the government continues to emphasize security, development, and political engagement in the Union Territory.
