Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Feb 3 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in Jammu and Kashmir for a three-day visit starting on Thursday, aimed at a thorough evaluation of the security situation, launching a range of development initiatives, and engaging with political leaders.
According to officials, the Union Home Minister will touch down in Jammu on the evening of February 5, where he is scheduled to meet with political leaders at Lok Bhawan that same evening. The following morning, February 6, he will visit the international border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district.
During his time at the international border, he will assess the latest technology implemented by the Border Security Force (BSF) to prevent infiltration.
On the afternoon of February 6, he will conduct a high-level security review meeting in Jammu, attended by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, top officials from the MHA, IB, as well as chiefs from various CAPFs and senior representatives from J&K’s civil administration, police, and intelligence agencies.
On the morning of February 7, he will proceed to Srinagar to inaugurate several development projects. In the afternoon, he will depart from Srinagar to Chhattisgarh, as per official sources.
This marks the second high-level security review of J&K in less than a month, following a similar meeting on January 8 in New Delhi. This earlier session was succeeded by a visit from Union Home Secretary Gobind Mohan, IB chief Tapan Deka, CAPFs leaders, and other officials to Jammu on January 14 and 15.
Sources indicate that the Home Minister is worried about the presence of foreign terrorists in the higher altitudes of the Jammu division, particularly in the districts of Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar, and Udhampur.
“A robust strategy is being implemented to neutralize terrorists through joint operations throughout Jammu and Kashmir,” sources mentioned, noting that the high-level meeting will likely refine this strategy.
Search operations continue in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, along with the higher regions of Billawar in Kathua and other districts to eradicate foreign terrorists.
An Army paratrooper was martyred and seven others injured during an encounter with terrorists in Chatroo (Kishtwar) on January 18.
A senior commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group was eliminated by security forces in the upper areas of Billawar in Kathua district.
During the January 8 security review in New Delhi, HM Shah assured security forces that all necessary resources would be provided to accomplish the mission of a 'terror-free Jammu and Kashmir.'
He instructed all security agencies to remain vigilant and collaborate effectively to maintain the progress made following the abrogation of Article 370.
The Union Home Minister has emphasized the necessity for zero infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border in J&K, while conducting aggressive operations against terrorists and their over-ground workers (OGWs) to bring about complete peace in the region.
