Jammu, Feb 6 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit the International Border (IB) today, where he will initiate welfare programs for the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and lead a crucial security review meeting as part of his three-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir.
Amit Shah's arrival was postponed until Thursday night, reaching Jammu around 11 p.m. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha at the airport before heading to Lok Bhawan for the night.
Officials have indicated that the Union Home Minister will focus on the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district and conduct a comprehensive review of the security landscape in a high-level assembly.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), leaders of paramilitary forces, and intelligence operatives have gathered in anticipation of Amit Shah’s visit.
The Home Minister will visit forward positions along the International Border, including the Border Outposts of Gurnam and Bobiya in Kathua, to assess the BSF's preparations against infiltration.
“He will e-inaugurate and lay the e-foundation for six welfare initiatives for BSF personnel at the Bobiya outpost and engage with the BSF members. Following the monsoon floods of August-September last year, several posts and fencing were damaged but have since been repaired. He will converse with BSF officers and troops on the International Border to gain insights on the current situation. After this, he will chair a high-level meeting to review the security status in Jammu and Kashmir at Lok Bhawan,” officials stated.
“Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, key officials of the MHA, leaders of paramilitary forces from New Delhi and J&K, intelligence agencies, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and other senior officers from police and intelligence in Jammu and Kashmir will participate in the meeting. A thorough assessment of the security environment will be conducted, particularly regarding the ongoing anti-terrorism operations targeting foreign terrorists in the hilly regions of Jammu,” officials added.
Recently, joint security forces eliminated three terrorists from the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), including two in Basantgarh, Udhampur, and one in Chatroo, Kishtwar.
The Home Minister will also distribute compassionate appointment letters and meet the families of martyrs at Lok Bhawan.
He will conduct a review of the developmental initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir during a high-level meeting. His return to New Delhi is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
Attending the development review meeting will be L-G Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, senior MHA officials, and civil administration representatives from Jammu and Kashmir. In anticipation of the Home Minister’s visit, security measures have been heightened in the Jammu region.
On January 8, the Union Home Minister also presided over a security review meeting regarding J&K in New Delhi, advocating for a mission-mode approach to neutralize terrorists and ensure zero infiltration at the border, aiming for lasting peace in J&K.
The presence of Pakistani terrorists in the hilly districts of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch, and Rajouri poses a significant security threat to the MHA, prompting the fine-tuning of security strategies to tackle this challenge, according to officials.
