Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Feb 5 (NationPress) The Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive for a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir this Thursday evening. His visit aims to assess the security landscape, engage with local political figures, and both initiate and evaluate a range of developmental projects within the union territory.
Officials have confirmed that HM Shah is expected to land around 5 p.m. and will chair a comprehensive security review meeting. This meeting will involve senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), various intelligence agencies, civil and police administrations of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as senior personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces.
Upon his arrival, the Union Home Minister will head directly to the Lok Bhawan where he will engage with representatives from diverse political parties. On Friday morning, he is anticipated to visit the International Border at Hiranagar in the Kathua district to receive updates from BSF officials on the current border situation.
He will later convene a high-level security review.
On the morning of February 7, he intends to travel from Jammu to Srinagar, where he will launch several developmental initiatives for the region.
This marks HM Shah's second comprehensive security review of Jammu and Kashmir in under a month, following a similar meeting held in New Delhi on January 8. That meeting featured participation from Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, IB Director Tapan Deka, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, chiefs of central paramilitary forces, and senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Intelligence Department.
Subsequently, Govind Mohan also visited the union territory.
Tanvir Sadiq, spokesperson for the ruling National Conference (NC) and MLA, noted that the Union Home Minister's visit has reignited hopes for statehood in Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP MLAs have welcomed the visit, asserting that it underscores Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to achieving lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and integrating the union territory with the broader nation.
It's important to highlight that during the security review on January 8, the Union Home Minister emphasized a mission-mode approach to ensure zero tolerance on the border and total neutralization of terrorists in the region.
The MHA has expressed growing concern regarding the presence of Pakistani terrorists in the hilly regions of Jammu division, specifically in the Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, and Rajouri districts.
In two separate anti-terror operations on Wednesday, joint forces successfully neutralized three terrorists, one in Kishtwar and two in Udhampur district. Both operations are ongoing.
