Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 31 (NationPress) The Kerala branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to retract its previous position in the Supreme Court that favored women's entry into the Sabarimala temple, particularly with the upcoming international Ayyappa devotees' convention on the horizon.
State BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar remarked on Sunday that the board's earlier decisions, made under the influence of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led state government, have compromised the faith of Ayyappa followers.
"The board should not presume that worshippers have forgotten its stance from February 6, 2019, during the review petition hearings in the Supreme Court. It is imperative that it publicly retract its position that conflicted with Ayyappa's beliefs and temple customs," he asserted.
Chandrasekhar emphasized that the state government and TDB's court submission has offended the feelings of millions of devotees.
If the state and TDB genuinely wish to host the devotees' convention, they must formally revise their position to the court and provide a public statement.
