New Delhi, Oct 17 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has publicly defended Anamika Gautam, the spouse of BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, amidst claims from the Congress party of significant asset escalation.
During a press briefing, Congress accused Gautam of “accumulating” wealth far exceeding her reported income, labeling it a potential instance of “extensive corruption”.
BJP IT cell leader Amit Malviya took to the social media platform X to address the matter, stating that Anamika Gautam would share her perspective before the Lokpal.
He indicated that as the issue is currently under judicial scrutiny, public discussion would be unsuitable. Malviya also questioned the intentions of Congress, pointing out that the complainant did not attend the hearings.
“What is the motive behind this press conference now?” he inquired, implying that Dubey’s political stature may have disturbed the Gandhi family.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate referenced election affidavits and a pending Lokpal complaint during the press conference to bolster their claims.
Shrinate asserted that Gautam's assets surged from Rs 50 lakh in 2009 to Rs 31.32 crore by 2024. She pointed out discrepancies in the financial declarations, alleging that the growth of both movable and immovable assets was not transparent.
She called for a response from both the BJP and Dubey, revealing that a formal complaint was filed with the Lokpal on May 24, 2025, instructing Dubey to reply within four weeks.
However, she mentioned that there has been no clarity on whether a response was provided or what actions followed.
“The figures don’t correlate,” she said, urging the Lokpal to act promptly and transparently.
Dubey reacted with a vague post on X, simply stating, “maaza aa raha hai” (having fun), which added to the controversy. The BJP insists it will cooperate with legal proceedings, while Congress continues to demand accountability.
With the issue remaining sub-judice, all attention is on the Lokpal’s impending decision, which could clarify whether the allegations are valid or merely a political maneuver.
This incident highlights the increasing role of digital platforms and legal avenues in India’s political conflicts, where asset declarations and public scrutiny are becoming pivotal in shaping the narrative.
