Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 4 (NationPress) The issue surrounding Sandeshkhali has resurfaced in the Calcutta High Court, as the BJP has lodged a petition asserting that its members and supporters are being wrongfully accused in various cases.
The party contends that the police have initiated FIRs against BJP personnel, including Gangadhar Koyal, in the North 24 Parganas district.
This petition was accepted on Wednesday, with a hearing anticipated on Thursday.
The BJP's accusations include claims of arms-related charges against certain individuals and numerous cognizable offences against others.
Previously, in a separate High Court case challenging these FIRs, the state government had assured verbally that no severe actions would be taken against the accused.
In its recent petition, the BJP stated that despite the assurances given by the state's Advocate General, its members continue to receive summons, notices, and are facing harassment.
Furthermore, the BJP has expressed that its workers are being threatened with arrest.
This matter has been brought before Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, with an application for urgent hearing submitted.
Notably, during the Sandeshkhali incident, a case was brought against BJP leader Mampi Das, who was granted unconditional bail by the High Court. Additionally, BJP's Gangadhar Koyal had previously filed a case in the Calcutta High Court regarding the dissemination of fake videos linked to Sandeshkhali, alleging that manipulated videos were created using their images and circulated widely on social media. At that time, Justice Jay Sengupta mentioned that no severe action could be taken against Koyal. Now, the BJP has revisited the High Court concerning the cases lodged against its workers.
