Kolkata, Aug 31 (NationPress) The BJP expressed strong criticism towards the Mamata government on Sunday after relatives of Trinamool Congress leaders appeared in the 'tainted candidates' list published by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC).
In response to the list's release, the BJP condemned the delay in its publication.
Union Minister of State for Education and DoNER, Sukanta Majumdar, took to his X handle stating, "After an extended period of drama, the West Bengal School Service Commission was finally compelled to release the list of 'tainted ineligibles' under the directive of the Supreme Court."
He questioned why the list was not made public during the hearings at the Calcutta High Court or later in the Supreme Court if it was already prepared.
Upon the Supreme Court's order to publish the list within seven days, the West Bengal SSC complied and released it on Saturday evening, identifying 1,804 candidates along with their roll numbers.
The list notably includes the name of Nirmal Ghosh's daughter-in-law, Shampa Ghosh, and Shamsuddin Ahmed, closely associated with state minister Sabina Yasmin. Shamsuddin's wife is also a Zilla Parishad member.
Further names include Bibhas Malik, a Trinamool leader from Khanakul in the Hooghly district, whose wife, Santoshi Malik, is also listed.
Another mention is Priyanka Mondal, daughter of the Trinamool Congress leader in the Hingalganj area of North 24 Parganas. The name Namita Adak, wife of Naimul Haque, another Trinamool leader from Khanakul, also appears.
Additionally, the list includes Sahina Sultana, aide to the arrested Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, who is a member of the Hooghly Zilla Parishad. The name Kuheli Ghosh, a Trinamool Congress councillor from Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality in South 24 Parganas, is also mentioned.
In light of these findings, Sukanta Majumdar, the former West Bengal BJP president, emphasized, "Only the SSC can determine who is eligible and who is not."
The Trinamool Congress attempted to distance itself from the incident.
Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee claimed that the ineligible candidates secured jobs through Suvendu Adhikari, who was part of the Trinamool Congress until 2020 before joining the BJP.
"The list comprises not just Trinamool names but also several BJP figures. Suvendu Adhikari is responsible for it all. What transpired in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Bankura, and Murshidabad districts, where Suvendu was tasked with working for the TMC during his time with us?" remarked Banerjee.
Upcoming SSC recruitment exams are set for September 7 and 14.
The Supreme Court has mandated that 'tainted and ineligible' candidates will not be permitted to take the exam.
